After being torn down for 2 months, finally got my car back to the track. One thing I changed was locking out the advance in the distributor. Don't know if it made my car quicker, but it sure made it harder to start! So what is a good choice for a timing control? I'd like something that cuts back the timing for startup and also can be set to back timing out when I leave (I'm running in a traction limited class). Also, what is the reason for pulling timing out on the top end Oh yeah, It needs to be compatible with MSD7AL2. [This message has been edited by rustang@home (edited 08-07-2005).]

Pulling the timing back on top end will give you more MPH. MSD Digital 6 has timing retard. With my crank trigger ignition and 7AL box, I use a MSD "starter saver" which gives me 10? retard during start. It does have the option of having a 20? retard by just cutting the "loop" wire that's on it but I'm using the 10? option.------------------ Ted E. Big inch Fords are plenty fast, but Y-Blocks's are fun when they run in the low 9.60's @ 135mph.

You could also wire a switch into your ignition and turn the ignition on after it gets to cranking speed.James

The distributor's MSD. Their billet one for the 302. I forget the part number. Mark, I've been checking that one out. It's awesome but don't know if I want to invest in one at this time. I think MSD makes some analog ones but I'm unsure which one to go with. Also how I would control the timing. (As far as pulling timing out for the first 60', timing out in high gear, etc.)
