I took a BRAND NEW Holley 950HP carb apart today... Yea, the ones that are supposed to come with NON-STICK gaskets. Well guess what? They are the stickiest damn gaskets I've ever had to scrape off of ANY carburetor! After taking the screws out, I like to never got the bowl and metering blocks off!

This carb had never had fuel run through it. It was BRAND NEW. It had just been sitting for 2-3 years since purchased.

I don't know why they come with a rear power valve... It would get uncovered on a hard launch. A set of screw-in jet extensions came with it, but they were not installed. They were in a plastic bag. The rear float is cut out for the extensions.

I plugged the rear power valve, and jetted the secondaries from the stock 78's to 86's. It also had 78's in the front.

I'll probably try it out on my 302. The last engine originally had a 650DP. I replaced it with a Speed Demon 750, and it ran the exact same times. The Speed Demon seems to have developed problems, as it would hardly idle unless all four idle screws were almost all the way out. I stuck an ancient Holley 750DP on there, and it ran just fine. Since the 950HP has the same venturi size as a 750, I'm don't guess I'll lose much, if anything in the low-midrange. Any thoughts?

I'm about to send Holley a letter bomb on those 'super glue' gaskets! I spent over an HOUR scraping pieces of gasket from the body, metering blocks and bowls!

I bought this carb from a guy who sold his engine and needed cash for $300 a couple years ago. I know, my car would probably run best with a 650HP.... but....

I never knew they made red ones...I have had good luck with the blue ones though. Sorry for your pain. Ron

$300 sounds like a heck of a deal even if the gaskets stuck. I also had red gaskets and they stuck badly. They came on my 9375 1050 HP Dominator when I bought it new 4 or 5 years ago. I coat my gaskets in grease or Vasaline before I install them and they don't stick at all. Been doing that since the late '80s when my dad taught me that trick when I bought my first 4V Holley for my first car (1968 289 Falcon wagon).

What is this FE fascination for which there seems to be no real cure? Something about wanting to spend twice as much money to go half as fast for one third the number of passes between explosions and not being able to find parts to fix it when it does explode (but FEs look cool, probably the best looking Ford engine ever made).

Chap Stick also works well... and it's less messy.

Blue gaskets last about 2 months or a few heats cycles then they stick too. Chap stick sounds like a trick for the track.
