I finally called the guy that built my 408 Stroker shortblock because I am still getting some oil leaking into the bell housing after 3 new rear seals. He asked me: Did you use sealer on the flywheel bolts? - NO, I did not. He says the holes for the flywheel bolts goes all the way into where there is oil and that if you don't use a sealer it can leak. Has anybody else heard this before I pull the tranny, clutch and bell housing AGAIN I actually hope he is right so I can fix it once and for all. Thanks Ernie ------------------ Red Fire Clearcoat 65 Fastback, 408W. Don't know what kind of crank your running in your stroker but yes the stock ford small block cranks will leak oil out of the holes.Just try removing the bolts with a full pan of oil and the engine tipped back a little. ------------------ 1968 mustang j-code sprint.13.69@101 306cu.in, stock ported heads, weiand exellerator,650 holley DP,hedman hedders, comp 292 Magnum cam,4-speed,8 inch 4.11 detroit locker........1966 mustang coupe project.289 4 speed,3.20 rear http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/mustangboy.html [This message has been edited by mustangboy (edited 06-20-2005).]

Normally questioning me on this type of topic would dictate a sarcastic response from such as "next time you need advice maybe you should call ARP instead", but I'll let it slide this time. ARP recomends the moly lube on everthing! Sells a lot of lube that way. If you have ever had a flywheel or flexplate come loose at 8000 RPM you would understand the need for a thread locker. As late as the year 2000 (that I know of) HP FoMoCo engines still use a thread locker on the flywheel bolts. It serves two purposes. 1) to prevent oil from seeping out 2) to prevent the blots from backing out. SBF's were always notorious for having flywheel and converter bolts (or nuts) back off. You can get away with using silicone on head bolts to prevent seepage, but they are not subject to the vibration that the flywheel fasteners are. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Alex,Which should I use - Blue - Red or other?? I am assuming that the loctite seals the bolts in addition to locking them in place ?? Thanks for your help, as always Ernie ------------------ Red Fire Clearcoat 65 Fastback, 408W. We use the red, but either will work. I have used both. Don't need much.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked."
