My traclok must be all used up? It only works when I leave lite on the gas. I tried changing out the fluid and removing the friction reducer. That seemed to help a little. Off the line I can get two tires to spin but only a short time, then just one does all the work.
With the old motor both tires were leaving equal lines.

Traction was not good already and now only having one tire it just SUCKS!

Thanks Steve, I'm either going to rebuild the tracloc and add some 3.80 gears, or keep saving for a 9".

Some what do you think is the least $$$ I'll have to spend going to a 9"?
Can it be done for $500 or less?

First you need a 9" housing and carrier to fit your car. After that you have a few descisions.

First are you looking at a posi or a locker? Lets for argments sake say a Detroit, that's $400. A set of used gears shouldn't be too hard to come up with, say another $100. Plus an install kit, $100. Do the gear setup yourself and you have $600+ the axle itself. Now add in $300 for shafts if you do alloys. If your lucky and find a good price on a 31 spline axle you would save on the shafts. If you go LSD you could likely find a used posi for under $200

For mine, I have

$160+ gas (from Milwaukee to Mineapolis) for the housing and center. But I sold the gears for $60 so lets say $160.

On top of that I have,

$100 for used 4.56 gears
$425 for a Summit Detroit
$100 for install kit
$300 For Strange Shafts

Grand total, $1085 plus a few buck for Summit's and Jegs' handling charges.

If you have to have the gear setup done figure another $200.

The only way I can see $500 is if you get a good deal on a 9" pretty much ready to go.

B-loose

Right now I have in

Was your trac-loc rebuilt before you put it in? Every trac-loc I've ever tried to use without rebuilding has only worked for a short time!

I'd consider putting new clutches in it. The one I ran in my '67 had the case scored up pretty bad, so we machined the case a little deeper and added an extra set of plates.

good luck!
