I have a 67 C4 and it will not hold second to 6,000 rpm's. So I disconnected the vacumm line from the carb and plugged it. Took it down the track and it still shifted about 5400. Can anyone help? I'm completely confused.

Thanks,
Jason

Did disconnecting the modulator increase the RPM at all?
What modifications were done to the valve body?

Alex, the valve body is stock but it has a shift kit, thats about 1 1/2 years old. Thats all. Would an aftermarket valve body help? if so whats the cost?

It depends a lot on the shift kit.
Have you tried shifting back to first after the 1-2 shift?
We used to have to do that with some of the crappy shift kits back in the old days.
Still do it on stock AOD transmissions.

No I havent tried that. I shift from 1-2 at 6,000 then about 5400-5500 its shifts automatically from 2-3, still with stock shifter in 2nd gear. I'm thinking why i have the tranny out of the car I'll put in a a new valve body. Is that a good start? of can i play with the vacum modulator on the back of the tranny?

If you have the trans out, by all means contact JPT at 517-663-0578 and get a new valve body.
They can sell you one that still retains a drive function, yet shifts when you want it to, or a full manual, reverse pattern race unit.

No JPT website.
He has enough trouble with e-mail.
[email protected]
Best to call them direct.
I would not use any TCI products.
They are much better these days since they are owned by Comp, but still 99% chebbie orientated.

I used to run TCI manual valve body. It can't hold a candle to a JPT manual. I would highly recommend a JPT.

Will a JPT valve body still shift automatically in drive?
