We took my car to the track last night and tried a different carb. I wanted to try this carb, but not under these cirucmstances. See, I installed a clearanced float and jet extensions in my 950 HP carb and proceeded to strip the threads out of one of the float screws. Since we wanted to go to test n tune, I stuck an old 850 dp on that I have had for years. Last saturday with the 950 the car ran consistantly 1.44 60', and 6.37 @ 110 mph. With the 850 all I managed last night was 1.50-1.51 60' times, and 6.54-6.55 @ 107 mph. I figured the air quality made the difference closer to .12-.15 and around 2 mph. It was still consistant, but the 950 is faster, idles better, and started better. I didn't think there would be that much difference in them, but either there really is, or my 850 is just a POS.Now I need to find a really small helicoil and fix my 950 before the next race.

Good luck finding anything not specifically made for the Holley threads. 12-24 threading is becoming harder and harder to find. I went out to search for some bolts to act as a temporary measure for adding a metering block to the secondaries, but had no luck. The next size up is 1/4 and it happens to not fit through the holes in the float bowl or the block.

KK,Good for you! After a "fast" ride the slow cars just don't do it for you do they? I like bracket racing, but racing my F-250 is about as boring as it gets, except for when the win light lights up. Good thing I have the "other" car. It's a handfull of "hang on" even though it os only low 11's in the 1/4. Have fun guys, SteveW

Kid, I've probably told you before, but I found similar results switching between an 850DP and 750DP. My engine just doesn't like an 850. I still havent' been able to try a 950.------------------ Ben Grabber Green '70 Mach I 351C 4V Robbin Egg Blue '79 Fairmont 408C 4V, 10.50 127 MPH

MIne sure likes the 950HP carb. It starts better, idles better, and runs much faster. My motor could probably stand to have an even bigger carb bolted on, something like a 1050 dominator, but I don't have clearance for the dominator adaptor plus the carb on top of it.
