I have a 351W 2 bolt MotorSport Sportsman block 3.00 mains in the 1968 Mustang that has a 9.486 deck height that I would like to cut down to 9.200 and make it a 4 bolt main block, run a Cleveland Intake manifold in order to make it look more like a Boss 302. I might have brought this up in the past, however, Ive got a good memory.... but it is a tad short. What Im looking to do is make a tall block Boss 302 look alike. My plan is to build a 400 cid Boss 302 looking engine with a 351W 9.200 deck height. Most Cheby guys would never know the difference between the two.... Hell, most cant tell the difference between a 302 & 351W. Some might remember the machine shop difficultly I had with my 1969 block, that I now have back in my possession . My thoughts are to run the 69 block while I build the Boss 302 look alike engine. This is something Ive always wanted to do, ever since the late 70s. Im looking to run low 10s or high 9s on the engine with a 3000lb 1968 Mustang. I have a C4 w/5500 stall converter and a multitude of 9 rear end gears to choose from. My questions are: 1.) What 9.200 351C intake is best suited for this application. one that would look like some kinda Boss intake and work well? 2.) Can the Sportsman block 351N be safely be cut down to 9.200? Ive read that its ok. 3.) Pros and/or Cons cutting the block down to 9.200. 4.) Is using bearing spacers ok, in order to use 2.75 bearings & crank? Or would a 3.00 main crank be ok in the 7500-rpm range. 5.) What crank would you recommend? I think Im leaning towards the Blue Thunder cylinder heads, I dont think I can afford the Yates heads at this point, unless they are uesed. However, I would like to use shaft rockers so I can use the MotorSport or stock Boss 302 valve covers, most likely Boss 302 valve covers. Any and all input will be greatly appreciated.

A Boss 302 intake has the thermostat housing in the manifold just like a 351 Windsor manifold. The Cleveland manifold has no thermostat housing. Are you going to drill the heads for water outlets or does the sportsman block have a thermostat provision.B&A used to make a hybrid manifold that fit Cleveland heads on a 351W block. The made 2V and 4V head versions. Tracy

Somebody bought out B&A and is producing those intakes. That would solve all of your problems Buster. http://www.mustangandfords.com/techarticles/30220/------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." I thought I had heard that a while back. And I'm not sure you can mill .280 off the deck of a block. Tracy

Jessie, what is the max bore for that block and whats the Ford MotorSport part number? I'm not sure which block it is..... Has the engine been run since it's been bored to .060"? I found a set of heads and intake for a 9.200 block on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7969104695 This is a perfect head intake setup for what Im looking for. I have stuff that I can sell to compensate for buying the items I need... its all in the timing. Im in Orlando and not to far from you, therefore, I might make a trip up there to check it out.
