Bruton Smith buys NHRA......... at least thats what is going around the Vegas pit area.... Also, for Stock and SuperStock. All Stick and Automatics will be combined into 1. In other words no more A/S and A/SA in 2006........

Here in Charlotte (Bruton's hometown), that story has been in the news for a week.
Bruton's no dummy. I am sure that he can grow the series, but will it help the "Sportsman" racers or just TF, Pro Stock, etc.....

It has been well known that Bruton wanted to make the purchase. Now supposedly its a done deal.

Having worked for Bruton I can assure you of this. The man is not alergic to investing in things that he can better.

Bruton was also inducted into the Charlotte Sports Hall of Fame over the weekend.

Bruton is also a major leverage player in the proposed NASCAR Hall of Fame sweepstakes too. Atlanta and Charlotte are both out doing the other contendors for this honor...and O.Bruton Smith has investments in both city's.

Georgia has recently named a stretch of highway leading to the Atlanta Motor Speedway..of which Smith owns. Trying to gain his favor and support for Atlanta's bid..as if Coke, UPS and Home Depot weren't enough (LOL)

Charlotte needs his backing to obtain this too...and odds are , he will back the home team..as he was also interested in funding an "Automotive" museum in downtown Charlotte at some point.

Frankly...most anything Bruton does..other than getting married , turns into a real jewel of an operation. Hopefully this will net Charlotte a nice Drag Way and race dates to compliment the other types of racing we host too.

Charlotte has had a few drag strips over the years, even the track now called Lowe's used to run drags. Bruton ought to be familiar with that place.

I can't imagine he'd bugger anything up worse than some of the recent decisions. He may improve things. I'm curious who actually owned NHRA before?
