Anyone know anything about Champ Converters out of Indiana? I haven't heard much about them but I haven't heard anything bad either. They quoted me a 9" stall guarenteed to foot brake stall to close to 3500 with brazed veins etc...for $450 and can be built and delivered by Tuesday.

Bart,

I've never heard of them, and the price seems too cheap for a quality converter.

Shopping for a Converter can be tough. I know 700 and up for a Converter can be a Lot of money for any one. I have run a G.E.R converter in my mustang for the last 5yrs. After many many people telling me what junk they are and how much my car can improve just by switching converters. 3 tenths to a 1/2 second!!! I went on ebay and found a brand name converter(Continental Converters) that someone was switching to a higher stall. He paid 750.00 for the converter. I paid 250.00 with shipping from ebay. I called the maker of the converter and had them set it up and rebuild it for my car. The Converter is now brand new. Cost 350.00 with shipping. Total 600.00 for knowing I got a matched converter and I saved 150.00 off a new one. Just a thought of one way to save some money. I didnt have to come up with all the money at once and now I cant wait to try it out this summer.

Well, I would love a JPT, Coan, etc. but it's not in the budget for this car. There are several guys at the local track running the Champ converters and I have seen them mentioned on a few other forums. I haven't heard anything bad yet. They are a small outfit and don't stock converters, each one is custom built per customer specs. I bet I spent 30 minutes on the phone just answering questions. One buddy of mine switched from a Hughes to a Champ, same rated stall and picked up .2 in the 1/8 with it. I am going to keep looking and decide this week if I need to just bite the bullet and get a JPT etc...
