I have a 66' mustang with 351w and the super comp headers(#6208-1). The motor is out of the car, so I'm wondering the easiest way to put the motor in the car. Can I attach the headers to the motor and drop it all together? Or, stick the motor then put the headers on? Thanks, Jason

You'll never get it in with the headers on. You'll have to install the engine first and struggle with the headers later.Have fun!

I had several folks tell me my 351C would not slide in to my '69 with the headers on. It went in smooth as butter. It can't hurt to give it a try. Use a good leveler and a few friends and go for it. Worst case it doesn't work and you get to scrape you knuckles installing the headers after the motor is in...

A 69 engine bay is made for a big block. A 66 bay is tight with a 289 so I don't think the headers will go in with the engine. There is nothing wrong with trying though. You must be down the street from me. Lakewood has some really long streets though. If you need help my number is 303-234-1054.

JCQUINN: Thank You for the offer. I hope to get my motor next week from F&M. Do you race and bandimere? if so what? I think we live close cause your number is an old one. I live off of 6th and Wads. I had headman headers before and I really struggled getting them but I was hoping the hookers would just slid in. Oh well, better performance...I think. Jason

What many people do to make things easy and keep from scratching up the headers is...Lay the headers in the engine compartment against the inner fenders... then guide the engine down into place. They will usually use cardboard to keep from scratching the headers up. This seems to be very common with the 'FE' crowd. I used to practically live at Bandimere's but I quit racing about 20 years ago. I am currently building an 85 Mustang to race in Stock Eliminator. You are probably about my son's age, he is 19. Let us know if you need help, we can both come over and yes we are very close. I am at 12th and Balsam. I didn't know F&M were still in business. Did you know the initials originally stood for Ford and Mercury? They started the business when the flathead was the motor of choice. The headers are just fine. You've got to loosen the motor mount and lift that side of the engine up around an inch during installation, but they fit well. The subframe connectors stick right on, then you weld them in place. No problem. ------------------ Mike Burch 66 mustang real street 302 4-speed 289 heads 10.63 @ 129.3 http://www.geocities.com/carbedstangs/cmml_mburch.html http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/healey/367 http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?220

Super Comp headers on a 351w '66 must be put on after the engine is in. Then you'll have to raise the engine a couple inches to bolt them up. SteveW
