Which one is the best? The worst?
It must be SFI approved and for a 351C with external balance.

Yeah. I bought one of those POS dampners. I don't have anything good to say about it. Live and learn.

What was wrong with the dampner? Was it not balanced right or something else? Functionality or just the way it's made?

I just bought an ATI Pro damper for my Cleveland. I am pleased with its construction. I just started assembly, so I havn't run it yet. I was told by the machine shop that the most popular stuff was ATI and Fluidamper. Mine worked well when they balanced the rotating assembly.

I would like to hear if Alex has had any issues with the ATI. I have a lot of money in this engine and would like to head off any potential problems before they start.

Alex, I'm just curious. What is it you don't like about the ATI dampers? I've run them with good results so I'm just wondering what's turned you off on them. On my own "don't like" and "don't promote" lists, I include all the liquid filled dampers including Fluidamper.

Big inch Fords are plenty fast, but Y-Blocks's are fun when they run in the low 9.60's @ 135mph.

I think the spacer ring was made poorly and the pully wobbled. Also the aluminum beauty ring that is "riveted" on the front came off in no time. How safe is that for a "SFI" dampner?

I've had excellent results with the Fisher dampers both on the dyno and on race cars. They are what I would consider a mechanical friction damper by design. I've got two of them on different engines and I do take them apart on a semi-regular basis (roughly every two years of hard use) and give them a fresh treatment of silicone grease and a general cleaning.

I typically avoid anything made by CAT though including their dampers.

What I don't like about the ATI product is the price for what you get.
I know exactly where the parts for their balancers come from and what they cost.
They do not make them in house. They only assemble them.
The aluminum ones will wear out and egg shape the hub in 100 runs.
I won't use anything from CAT if I can avoid it.
Made in China.
I am not a fan of liquid filled balancers either.
To many temperature variables.

I suspected that the CAT was made in China, but it was the only one we could get on a very short notice. What is the story behind CAT? Is it a US company that moved the manufacturing to China? I prefer to buy parts made in the US,but at the time there were no alternative(very short notice of a rule change).I wonder if we have a fluid filled damper???

The Mustang Depot ones seen on eBay. I think they might be Hawks brand, but it doesn't list that in the ad.
