Hey, Its time to put bearings into the 289 and we were looking for some input on which type? the cam is standard sized and its a 10/10 undersized crank. Anyone have any advice or comments on Clevite 77 from summitt, i think we're leaning towards them... thanks everyone.

Clevite is fine. Careful to make sure they are genuine Clevite and not Clemex.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Hello Steve, Called him the other day, his TIG is down, might have to trailer it to another guy I talked to here in Petaluma, unless you know somebody. Sam

im about to build my engine (331) with Clevite bearings. What do I clean them with before Installation. I have some comp cams engine assembly lube which I was going to use but was wondering what to use to clean them off. I also have some plastigage, how do I prep for the plastigage? Thanks

The book by Tom Monroe says to clean the bearings and the journal with laquer thinner. For the plastigauge have everything clean and dry as it will melt in oil and do not turn the crank or it will smear. He also says to install the crank and rods with oil but with moly-disulfide on the cam. I always wondered if that was because it was a bad idea to install the crank and rods with moly-disulfide or just unnecessary. Any opinions?
