Can anyone shed some light on the various driveshaft yokes that are available. Number of splines? Stronger/weaker versions with the same spline count etc?I was chatting with a fellow at the Columbus swap meet and he told me that when ever he lowered his tire pressure too much that his car hit so hard at the line that it would twist the splines in the front yoke. Claimed it never actually broke but it would make removing the driveshaft difficult. I think he also said that the shelby yokes where stronger, but very difficult to find. I think the C6 output shaft is bigger or has higher spline count. I will be using a G-Force upgraded T5, so I am stuck with the spline count of a stock T5. Thanks, Jeff

I had the same problem.C6 = 31 splines C4/ small input/output Toploader = 28 splines I believe the T5 'might' use the same 28 spline slipyoke. Maybe someone else will know for sure. I went through various 'stock' slipyokes before finding a bulletproof 28 spline unit from Mark Williams Enterprises. However, it uses a 1-ton truck #1350 U-joint, so you'll need to get another driveshaft made. I also have one of those for my C4 set-up. The drawback to getting one is MW is VERY proud of thier stuff.

I paid $170 for mine around 12 years ago. It is a nice piece though... and I was going through stock Spicer units like popcicles on a hot summer day! The splines would twist and the yoke would stick to the output shaft and vibrate like h*ll until you let it coast and popped the clutch... which would jerk it loose. It's one of those durability moves ya' just gotta' make. I've had zero problems with the MW unit. It's a beautiful piece. Mine was around $180 a few years back. I also have one of their pinion yokes on my car. After I twisted the stock driveshaft into 2 pieces on the starting line, I didn't trust any of the stuff I had on there so I bought 'bullet proof' parts to go with the new driveshaft.

T-5 is also 28 spline. MW stuff is very nice. What a lot of people are not aware of is that Spicer offers several different yokes for FoMoCo 28 and 31 spline applications. Ironically enough, the HD 28 spline, long style, 1350 u-joint yoke I have on MM is suspiciously identical to the MW unit. They are not easy to locate as they are only listed in the master cataloges that drive shaft shops seem to have. List price $149 My cost from Chicago Driveline $84 as of last year. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Looks like I will add the HD yoke to the shopping list. Now for the driveshaft itself, What are you three using? What are your thoughts on aluminum good or bad? Diameter?, Donor cars? Thanks, Jeff

Alex, do you have a part number for that yoke? I called Chicago Driveline today, and they said Spicer doesn't make a 28 spline 1350 series yoke. They suggested Mark Williams. ??

Hmmm? Sorry I don't have the part number. Try speaking to Ray. They suppied mine installed on the shaft when I bought it and was indeed a spicer. It was around $75 as I recall. They did have to order it the first time, but Ray (the owner) told me that he would keep them in stock from that point on.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked."
