I just received an oil pan I bought off of e-bay. It is supposed to be a Canton front sump. Problem is I don't think it is. I think it may be a Chinese knock off of a Milodon. I talked to a guy that sells Cantons and he said a Canton should have a part number etched in the front of the sump. This one does not, it has no markings what so ever. Also, after looking on the Canton web site this doesn't look the same as the one on thier site, again it looks just like my Milodon with only slight cosmetic differences (enough that I know it's not a Milodon either).Anyone have any idea how I can tell for sure if this is is indeed a Canton or not? I paid $138 for it including the pick up (pick up is stock and will not work). That would have been a fair price for a lightly used Canton but not a used imported knock off. I think the knock offs are going for less than $100 new. B-loose [This message has been edited by Bloose (edited 04-11-2005).]

It is absolutely not a Canton. All Canton performance pans for a SBF are boxed. Only the Boss 302 replacement pan is not and it is not a "A" frame style. It is a OEM confuguration or copy. It is also not a 30925 Milodon A frame low profile pan. All Milodons have reinforcment ridges stamped into the sides and bottom of the sump. Also, maybe it's the photos but the anodizing appears to be chinsy and of poor quality compared to Canton or Milodon. Regardless, it is not a Canton or a Milodon SBF pan. FYI A 30925 Milodon brand new through us is about $180Canton is about $200 Also, all Canton and Milodon pans use specific pick ups and never utilize stock ones. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Alex,What about pic 30 on Yahoo, that is supposed to be a Milodon but I don't think it is. It has 2 reinforcment strips on the kickout where I think the Milodon has 3. Also, on the Milodon I think the pan itself is smooth (not the kickout part) where this one is not. I've been having some bad luck on e-bay as of late. Misrepresented oil pans, poor packaging, etc. It's getting frustrating. B-loose

Could be an older one B. They have been producing that pan since the 70's. It does have ribs. Sorry about your troubles.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Sounds good. I got the Milodon for a better price and it came with the correct PU. The Milodon is for the wagon which could have really gotten by with a stock pan, but the original pan was done for.The Canton was for the Fastback and I wanted a good pan for that. I have oil presure problems on launch so I wanted a good pan for it. I'll likely be calling you at some point to buy a Canton for it. I think I'm going to have to pull the motor to put the pan in it so I may wait one more season and do the pan and freshen the bottom end at the same time. B-loose
