Are they ever really finished? Well this one is for the time being. I will take it to the track on Friday and see how it runs. There were a few loose ends that I wanted to tie up even though this is a "Rat" type project car.The original gas cap hole needed to be filled, and I wanted to fill the hole with something other than a piece of metal being welded in. I found a Ford hubcap with just the right diameter on the center part of the cap. I buzzed the center out with the plasma cutter, ground the edges smooth and welded a 1/4" bolt to the center. An aluminum strap cinches it down from the back. I tried to find an original radio delete plate, but I could not, so a 351 Cleveland valve cover lost its center, and two 1/4" studs were welded to the back like the gas hole cover, and a similar aluminum strap holds it in place. It was blasted and clear coated for the final finish. An aluminum Kirkey 15" racing seat was bolted in after a lower bracket and that bolts to the original seat holes was fabbed up. It bolts to the cage with a couple of tabs. No seat cover will be used, because I could never figure out why racers will spend several hundred dollars on a race suit, but then sit on a nice piece of flammable vinyl or cloth!! I take safety serious, because i have been in two race car fires, and though I wasn't hurt seriously, it was no fun. The circle track valve covers are on their way to Tbirdchick for use on her '64 Galaxie, so I installed a more suitable pair of M/T's that were blasted and sprayed with some semi gloss cast iron urethane for the vintage magnesium look. I also dithched the red MSD wires for a set of stealthy black MSD wires. The MSD Pro Billet dizzy is on the way out also, in its place will go an Accel severe duty dual point with a mechanical tach drive. The nose in the air attitude was achieved with the weight jack bolts and the stock 6 cylinder springs. The wheels also got the cast iron urethane paint. The rear aluminum U.S. slot mags will get replaced with a pair of body color painted 15 x 9" steelies as soon as I get done building them. There was some rust in the lower front fender, so I fixed it, I cut it out -Done!! I did buff out the original beige paint, and it shines pretty nicely, though no paint gun will ever come near this car as long as I own it.

Now that looks like a great car for the track, all of the home made personal touches are fantastic. You should be proud of the car, and I hope it runs as fast as a scared terrorist in texas.------------------ JOHN 65 FASTBACK 2+2.....14.44 @ 107mph 1/4 87 TAURUS WAGON 03 F150 XLT SUPER CREW 4X4 SHORT BOX Member:Vancouver Island Mustang Association M&M #1710 65 FASTBACK 2003 F150 XLT SUPER CREW 4X4

I've been following along on all your posts and want to say great job!! The low buck approach is what's all about and the creative touches set the car off. I have enjoyed the pictorials and hope to see some track photos and timeslips!!!
