I've got a stock 66 with 289 I'd like to start taking to the track this year. Been a spectator, never a participant. I've got a DOT helmet, will the track accept this? I know that at some tracks the slow-poke cars they don't even require a helmut, but I'd eventually like to work my way down to 13.0 - 13.5 (I'd guess that a bone stock 289 would do a high 15?)

i dont think nhra/ihra requires one untill you get below 13.50.(i know its 8.49 in the 1/8 and thats about what it equates to in the 1/4) of course local rules prevail. i would wear one either way. DOT will not work. it has to be snell approved. 95 and up i think. im sure someone will correct me if i am wrong! good luck and have fun.------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-302-7.25 @93mph 1/8 1.54 60 ft. http://community.prestage.com/Member+Pages/789.aspx M&M member #839

Depends on the tracks own rules, but NHRA/IHRA requires Snell M or SA-90 and up or K-98 and up tags.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked."
