The car is a 69 Camaro with a 421 small block. He just took it to the track last weekend, and did pretty well on the radial tires.

With stock suspension, springs, frame connectors, CE shocks and 275/60/15 MT ET-Street radials, he cut a 1.48 60ft time... yanking the wheels to a 6.93 in the 1/8 and a 10.96 in the 1/4 through the exhaust on pump gas!

I took a ride in this thing on the street (it's a pump gas, no bottle car) and with those tires, it FLAT HOOKS! It's got a TH350 trans and an 8" converter backed by a 4.56 gear. We were rolling along around 15mph, and he yanked it down into low gear and mashed the throttle... The damn thing about gave me whiplash! It didn't spin at all... I wasn't expecting him to nail it, and it dern near pulled my head off and left it in the back seat! Of course we repeated the same procedure several times during our short outing.

I might expect this on a prepared track, but for the car to do that on regular asphalt with a stock suspension just blew my mind! These tires FAR, FAR, FAR outclass those overly hyped drag radials sold by BFG!

I was also impressed with the car. It's a chevy, but it is black and beautiful.... as well as being scary fast on the street. (Fast is a quality overcoming many faults) He was offered $30K at the last World of Wheels car show he entered it in, and turned it down.

The cam is actually pretty mild for such a sizable engine. It's a Bullet unit, measuring 248/252 @ 0.050" with a 106LSA. It didn't even have that much lift... less than 0.550" with 1.5 rockers. He shifts it around 6k rpm. It's fed by a Super Victor and a 850DP. Exhaust is non-manderel bent 3" and Flowdisasters with turndowns. The heads are AFR 210's.

I REALLY need to get my car running...

Everyone in the DR classes are switching to the Mickey's They use the same compound on their DR's as they do their slicks. should be sticky stuff.

Sounds like a nice ride. I can't imagine 30K for a camaro though......

j/k of course.

I had a 74 firebird built that was the same and I drove it on the weekends to work. Until it happened to rain while I was at work, Man I slipped all the way home. Curves at dangerous at more than 15 or so MPH BB's can be serious fun though

Since Cooper took over M/T, they have been burning the midnight oil on R&D.
New and improved products seem to be introduced almost weekly.

Performance of the chebbie?

The 275/60/15 is a full 28" tall, and specs out pretty much just like a 28x9 slick. It has a decent height sidewall which definitely helps. I don't know how well they would work on a stickshift, but they worked really well on my friend's automatic, fairly loosely suspended Camaro.

Once they break loose, they are supposed to just go up in smoke. We broke them loose once, and the car spun all the way through 2nd gear.

I have a feeling they are GREAT for automatic cars with loose suspensions, but they are probably not quite as forgiving with stiffer suspensions and stickshifts. For these, a tire with a softer sidewall will work better at absorbing the shockloads.

It just felt REALLY good to get a ride in a buddy's FAST hotrod... especially a buddy I hadn't seen in about a year or so. I was very impressed with his car and the tires.

Spring is here! 8)

We took my buddy's '95 Trans Am to the track last wednesday night. It gets 20 mpg, runs on premium pump gas, has working AC, powersteering, power windows, a 12.5-1 compression 383 inch LT1, and 3.73 gears. With a small set of MT et streets (spinning slightly off the line and right at the top of each gear) and not in 'go fast' mode, it ran 7.302 @ 94.5 mph with me behind the wheel. He thinks set up in 'go fast' it will run in the teens. He might be right. Go fast mode consists of skinny front tires, unhooking the front sway bar, bigger ET streets and opening up the cutout.
