I race a 1968 cougar at the local dirt track every Saturday night.I continously keep burning up power steering pumps.I put a new one on and it don't last the night.I have not found anyone who can tell me why.Just sitting and idling it gets extremely hot.The fluid is like black coal when I change it out.I have a 289 motor.I have changed out every component of the steering possible. Does anybody have a clue?[This message has been edited by team41 (edited 04-04-2005).]

Welcome to Mustangsandmore. One thing that comes to my mind is some kind of restriction in the pressure line from the pump to the steering gear. ------------------

I've actually had an internal piece of line act like a check valve, can happen on the rubber brake lines too. They will both look perfectly good on the outside.------------------ Bob 69 R Code Mach 1 70 Fastback 351C 71 coupe 302 99 F-250 Super Duty 2002 Exploder :) http://community.webshots.com/album/214154666mXNhcr
