Greetings, Dose anyone know where to get information on upgrading the front suspension on my mustang, specifically reinforcement of the shock towers? I am planning on replacing the front shock towers because they have been welded up after cracking (I have the car completely torn down, no motor Trans, interior. Basically a full up restoration). I have all of the bolt on accessories, export brace Monte Carlo bar. I seem to remember some time ago hearing about strengthen the front suspension like they did with the 69 BOSS by welding some plates in place. I am planning on relocate the upper control arms but I cannot seem to find any other information. Any help would be appreciated. Rich

Welcome to M&M ! On MM, about 30 years ago I fabbed up some 1/8 inch steel plates to fit around the control arm mounting area and gas welded them in. Heated the plates with a torch and formed them to fit. Seem to be holding up fine with the original shock towers. Some 2 or 3000 wheel stands later. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! I have a 68 and did that to my shock towers.absolutley love it, I have about 4" clearance between the head and shock tower now. Had it custom done by a professional welder, took him some pictures and he went to work.I think there is a company FPP (ford power parts)in so. Cal. that used to sell this kit, consisted of two big plates that had the 90* bend at the bottom and two other small plates that went between the bolt heads of the upper control. The great thing it came with instructions with pictures. Anything is possible, i've seen a Cammer in a 1965 mustang. (Larry Knapp, "Stampede")

Just a side note. I did not cut or modify my shock towers. I only reinforced them with the plating. They are for all intents and purposes, still 100% stock appearing under the hood in the engine compartment. I did the reinforcing on the suspension side.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! Check the advertiser at the top. NPD has shock tower brace kits that have all the parts you need already formed. Page 137 of the Sheetmetal catalog on line.------------------ '65 FB 289

Thanks for the information. I saw the NPD kit and I was being cheap, I think it's $300.00 So I was going to test my skills at fabrication Rich
