Can't tell ya how to fix it, but my Mom's New Yorker did the exact same thing. It had the needle too.I drove it a couple of times and it just wouldn't move at all. Then sometimes all of a sudden - bang - did what it was 'sposta.

It's electronic Mike. It may have a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensor) Do you have a scanner or have access to one. Usually they will throw a fault code and you can diagnos it better that way.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! Vss is in the rear end in trucks, but in trans on Crown Vic. If Vss or the circuit is bad there will usually be a check engine light associated with it , along with speedo complaint. May want to check cluster first if no MIL is on. Be sure to disconnect shift indicator cable before pulling cluster!

It plugs in where the speedo cable would go Mike. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS!
