I'm a little out of my depth here, so be kind I've got a 390 4V intake where the divider in the hole in the top has been crudely removed. Does that make it a single plane, rather than a dual plane? And why did someone do this? Is it to increase top end? And should I grind it down and make it all smooth and beautiful? Or maybe the ragged edges will help atomization? Thanks! Simon

That was done to increase top end power Simon. It was an old trick done to dual plane intake manifolds to increase the plenum volume.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! There is a real good post on the FE forum about a blue thunder dual plane intake on a 492 FE on the dyno. He made a removable divider in the plenum and had diff. height shims to see the diff. on the dyno. The 1" made the best power. He aslo tried 4 diff. headers and two diff. intakes and two diff. carbs plus nitrous. Best puuls were 667 N/A and 778with a small shot of nitrous. here is a link, very good read.http://www.network54.com/Forum/thread?forumid=74182&messageid=1111824824 ------------------ 68 Cougar XR7, 428 4-speed, Best ET 6.82 @ 101 1/8, 10.69@ 127.44 with 1.51 60 ft. Weiand makes a plenum divider kit. Offy used to sell a intake called a Dial-a-Flow which had replacable plenum inserts in several sizes and configurations.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS!
