My cousin's Fairlane
289 bored 60 over
AFR 165 heads, 1.9, 1.6, with 1.7 roller rockers
Comp Cams 270H
1 5/8 longtube Hooker 6901 with 2 1/4 mufflers only
C4, converter stalls about 2200-2400.

Right now we're running a Performer 289 intake with a 1 inch open spacer. We plan on 2.5 inch mufflers and dumps.

It pulls hard to about 6200, then starts to slack off. I'm trying to talk him into a Performer RPM, he's leaning towards the Vic Jr.

According to Engine Analyzer, it should peak at 7000rpms. What intake will give us 7000 rpms without sacrificing low end too much?

Air gap is a good intake.
It's not the intake that is limiting th rpm, it's the cam.

A few people have said that, and a few people said the heads will flow enough to pull it to 7000.

I wasn't sure which way to go.

It DEFINITELY needs a different intake.

The cam wil be about all done by 6200 rpm or so.

The heads are indeed good to 7000 rpm on a 289.

I'd purchase a large capacity dual plane like a Performer RPM, Air Gap or Stealth since the car still has an auto trans and tight converter. The Vic Jr won't show any improvement over those intakes until 5.5k rpm.

As for cams, it needs a small solid lifter unit. The Comp 282S will spin it right up to around 7k rpm.

Good Luck!

Id have to agree with the Air-Gap its a good manifold. I have AFR-185s w/ a 294s Comp. cam & it pulled strong to 7k to the tune of over 330hp to the wheels with open exhaust & was still at 314 up to 7400 rpm.
I think that was the end of the manifold as they put a 6500 rpm top in their advertisements.
This was all with everything right out of boxes. No port matching.

FYI, the car has Pedestal mount heads for a 5.0. So running a solid lift cam would be difficult being as that periodicial valve adjustments would be neccessary. I am a friend of Glens and I agree that unless he goes with a bigger camshaft, the Performer RPM is the way to go.

Later,
Vince.

They make adjustable pedastal rockers these days.
