I finally got around to making a new throttle linkage. It came out real nice. Total cost $15, it works great and looks lot better then the stock one did. Ok so it's not a big deal. But it was nice accomplish something.http://www.imagehosting.us/?id=344771&type=viewpic ------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe 351w C4 Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. I have been needing to do the same thing for some time now......can you give me a parts list and maybe some detailed pics on how you got it through the firewall and attached to the pedal?? I'll be doing it to a maverick so it should be similar.....

I can't take credit for the idea, this is where I read about it. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2004/08/ThrottleLinkage/index.php Where the factory rod connects to the new linkage. Rather then using some large washers to fill in the 1/2". I went to Lowes and looked through their nylon inserts until I found a one that was 1/2"x1/2" it wedged right in the factory part. What made it work great were the holley inserts from Moroso. I used the stock rod from the pedal out the firewall. ------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs

Scoop, your timing couldn't have been better! I have been agonizing over what I was going to do for throttle linkage and I need to get it done in the next 30 days. This is freakin' perfect! Thanks for posting. What finish is on that intake? That's beautiful!

Thats just an out of the box 3 year old RPM intake. It's all in the lighting, and being real fussy about keeping my car clean. Ok maybe a little obsessive too. If you look under the return spring, you'll see the intake is dirty. Some thing I haven't take the time to clean yet. I did get the Female thread Heim Joints from Summit Racing. I couldn't find then anywhere else.

Hey Scoop that looks really nice and professional. What kind of carb spacer are you using? Is it wood?

Oh I see....the early mustangs come with a throttle rod from the factory. Mine is a cable from the factory so it looks like it will be a bit harder to make a setup like that work.....

Hey scoop, where did you get your Heim Joints from? I have looked in all the local hardware stores and couldnt find any! Im looking to do the same thing. After reading your post (and while I was already fiddling with the neutral safety switch and kickdown linkage) I decided to check the adjustment of my carb Low and behold it wasnt opening all the way! It took some time - I had to move the spring to a better place and that allowed me to adjust my factory style linkage but I desperatley want a stiffer linkage - the factory one has that bend in it for the spring and its not very good. At least on the 1st test drive it felt more powerful, so I guess I should get to the track and see! ------------------ '68 coupe, '66 289 C code engine, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust http://www.geocities.com/ottouk_77/68mustang.htm

Ron, Did you ever come up with the part number from Summit for the Heim joints? When I do a search it never really comes up with the right thing. Nobody in Tucson has ever even heard of them. Also, did you have to modify the linkage on your carb? My Autolite 4100 does not have that part of the linkage that would fit that heim joint. Thanks

Found it, sorry it took so long. SUM-MSF4 about $4.00 each.If you ask around locally or search for them. Ask for or look under ROD ENDS not Heim joint. All I did was use the reducer in the large hole in the holley carb linkage to bolt the heim joint too. ------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe 351w C4 Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. Ok, thanks Ron. I will give them a shout. I'm getting spoiled and hate to use the phone. It just drives me nuts when they have the product and the search function does not come up with it. I mean it's not like they have 1000 "heim" parts.

I finished mine but not without some problems1) I used male rod ends and used a piece of 1/2 inch aluminum rod (drilled and tapped in the ends) as my linkage. 2) I found that the reducer pieces from moroso also fit the edelbrock carbs. 3) Found that using the reducer on my 68 coupe with an edelbrock carb is a bad deal. I couldnt get full throttle and idle to work (one or the other but not both), due to the pedal rod either hitting the engine or the pedal hitting the floor. I ended up using the smaller hole that is closer the the throttle shaft pivot point to get more throttle movement for less pedal action. I got my male rod ends from an ebay company not summit, they also sell rod ends that have left hand threads - but I dont have any left handed taps or nuts. if you do you could make one that is easier to adjust. ------------------ '68 coupe, '66 289 C code engine, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust http://www.geocities.com/ottouk_77/68mustang.htm

I just built one of these for my Aussie Falcon.... such a light and silky smooth throttle action now, almost feels like the return springs aren't hooked up... The extra pedal travel gives me much finer throttle control too... My linkage wound up like 8 1/4" long, real short I thought.. I did make one Mod to the way they built it.... Instead of using the 5/16th Brake line, I went to the Hobby shop and got some 9/32nd Aluminium tube made by K&S and used that instead... applied a little Autosol metal polish and between the aluminium tube and the stainless rod ends, the thing came up real shiny! matches the Ford racing polished valve covers and the Polished Holley float bowls...
