I have one of these and from what Ive read; it will not fit my 68 Mustang Coupe with a console and might required cutting of the tunnel. Has anyone had experiences with this shifter in a 68 Mustang with a SB Toploader? I see that it is pretty much a universal shifter but is it just the handle that is different than the Competition Plus shifter? I also see that the installation kits (linkages and stuff) have different numbers for the two shifters.------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC Bla-Bla-Bla 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55

I have a Hurst shifter on my '69 Mustang with toploader and had to cut the top off the shifter (where the stick bolts on) and welded a bracket to allow the stock stick to bolt on in the factory position. Without this, it would have meant cutting the side of the trans tunnel out which I did not want to do. The shifter box cost next to nothing (new at a swopmeet) so it was worth it to me to make it fit without cutting the car up. I am pretty sure there is a part number that duplicates the factory Hurst shifters which did fit without cutting. Good luck. Cheers, Martin

The Super Shifter mounts high on the tranny and will require you to butcher the floorpan to make it fit. The Comp Plus mounts in the stock location and clears the floor and console. I recommed you go this route, as a C+ shifter is only $225 or so...

The rods are different also I would imagine. Maybe I can find a trade or at my last resort a home for it on Ebay.------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC Bla-Bla-Bla 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55

Is the Hurst Comp + shifter for the Borg Warner the same as the toploader? It looks like the shifter itself is the same but the rods aren't. Can someone confirm this for me?

Hi EdI have a Super Shifter fitted to my 66 Coupe, yes you do have to cut some sheet metal out. Hurst did tell me it was only minor sheet metal trimming, you decided. But it is a great shifter, and I am glad I fitted it

I see 391-3180 being a Competition Plus shifter for both toploader and the Borg Warner. Is this correct?

That is the shifter body only. You still need the kit for installation and they are different for each trans type. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! I can then widen my search to look for one that someone thinks it fits a B&W only.

I have a Toploader and hopefully will be installing it in my coupe soon but I want to make sure that I have all the parts before I start. I have a Street Super Shifter but I dont want to cut anything up so I wanted to see if any of the parts were the same as the Comp +. Theyre not so I started looking for a Competition + shifter and was wondering if the shifters were the same but the installation kits were different. I could always trade the kit if I had the wrong one but I dont see to many people using the Super Shifter.------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC Bla-Bla-Bla 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55
