Well went and played on Saturday and managed to knock just under a second of my time from last year, went from 15.759 / 88.55mph to 14.806 / 93.92mph. With the new gearing, MSD, and fuel pump. Just could not get it too hook up, spinning in 1st. A guy there said Those BFG TAs are great tires they NEVER wear out, hes right they are just to damn hard. So before I try to get any more power out of the lump, I think it is time for a set of BFG Drag Radials, (I have to run a tread tire in my class).

Steve thats great your now a second quicker. I'm going to try the new MT drag radials. I've heard and read they hook better the BFG drags. Have you played with the air pressure in your BFG's yet. I've found on my 65 that my BFG's like 26psi, leaves the most tire on the road. I know they don't hook a lot better but it's a free way to get a little more traction.------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe 351w C4 Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. Hi, I was also looking at the MT drag radials, but the size has dictated my choice, I am going for the 235 50R15, to get a slightly lower gearing, then the 245 60R14 I am at present running. Everyone I have spoken to have said that the MTs are better.

I don't think BFG makes a 235-50-15 ? They make a 235-60-15 thats about 26" tall were as the tires we both run now are about 25" tall I also run 245-60-14. What gears are you running now. And what did you change from?------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe 351w C4 Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

I was running 3.00 I am now running 3.80, I am crossing the finish line in 4th at round 5000rpm, so if I can get the gearing a little lower with tire choice, it might help. I don't want to go much lower as I drive to the track and at the momement I am pulling 60 mph at round 3000rpm, so the idea is to get another set of rims and change the tires over when I get to the track.Comp T/ A Drag, 235/ 50/ 15, Radial

Do like the 3.80's that the gear I'm going with too. Is your 4th gear a 1-1 ratio ?Those tires 235-50-15 are listed at 27.9" tall and the 235-60-15 at 26.1" tall. If your going to change tires over at the track anyways. Why not just go with some ET streets they are still DOT tires. ------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe 351w C4 Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. The 3.80 seem fine I would not like to go much lower, for street use. I have a toploader, so I assume that top is 1:1.I checked out the tire sizes at this site Tire size calculator I just put in the size I had and compared it to the sizes I was thinking about. Another reason I was think about the BFG's is a company I deal with here in the England, can do me a good price on them. Shipping tires from the State's is expensive.

If you work out the diameter, the side walls are 235mm (50% of 235 times 2)and the wheel diameter is 381mm add together equal 616.0mm divide this by 25.4 (number of mm per inch) and you get 24.251 inches. So I am not sure how Summit get 27.9 inches!

Steve, I think that size was miss printed. Even the BFG site doesn't show a 235-50-15 size.------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe 351w C4 Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

Yup, looks like a miss print, just checked out the BGF site as well, back to the drawing board. I guess that a 235-60R15 will not be to bad. Just would have liked to have gone a little lower in the gearing!

Thanks, I must admit I had not looked at the BFG site, just took it that Summit had it right I think for now I will get a pair of the BFG Comp T/A's anything has got to be an improvement over what I have. My next outing to the track is the 2nd April, so not much time.

Wow what a range of times You need traction bad. They do make some G-force drags shorter but they use a 14" rim. Like the 225/45-14 they are 22" tall and 7.2" wide. ------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe 351w C4 Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

Steve,Can you run a DOT (US dept. of Transportation) tire? If so then run the M/T ET Streets. They are the next best thing to slicks. If not, then try American Racing (McCrearys) dirt track ties. Glens67 runs them on his low 12 second street car with 1.8 second 60'ers. Go for the lowest wear rating you can find and heat them up real good. Gooyer/sticker the better. LOL SteveW

Tom, it was a miss print by Summit. In fact BFG don't do a 50 series tire in that model!
