Folks, I dropped my 331 crank off for balancing last night. when it gets back I will be in the business of building the engine. So one of the things I need to do is nail down the cam and lifter package I want to use - as well as timing cover and timing chain kit.First off I want to use a roller cam. And Im thinking solid roller. My block is 1972 302 so it wasnt a "roller" block. I understand that its possible to drill the block and fit a spider and convert it to become a roller. What exactly is involved in that conversion and what does it usually cost? Then what are my choices for running something in the range of a comp cams 268-274 type cam. Are there retro roller kits that employ solid lifters with link bars? I didnt see any in the comp cams catalogue. Id prefer to not drill my block and mess with it, and ill be happy to pay for the expensive lifters too but I wonder what you folks think is best. thanks ------------------ '68 coupe, '66 289 C code engine, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust http://www.geocities.com/ottouk_77/68mustang.htm

I hate to be a copycat but the XR268R solid roller for the 351 that Bluestreak uses appears to be a good match for what I want. What do I have to do (apart from the obvious firing order) to make that cam run? Does that require the OEM spider and "roller" conversion for the block?(Edit) Looks like if I use the comp link bar lifters that cam will work in the older block. But im looking at 800 dollars for the cam and lifters. going fast costs more right? Any other ideas?
