When I crack this thing open and get ready to rebuild, how should I clean it up? I don't really want a huge greasy mess in the garage. And if I do it in the alley, the neighbors might not be too happy. What do you guys use for degreasing/cleanup of parts? Or do you just take the nasty bits to the machine shop and let them worry about it?

Let the machine shop do it. They are going to clean it again anyway...

I want to do the disassembly/reassembly though. Should I still let them clean it up?

When you tear it apart it's going to be messy no matter how careful you are. I would suggest draining the oil and then taking the oil pan off with the engine upright on an engine stand and let it drain for a day or so into a garbage can lid or something that will catch most of it. Throw some old rags down around the engine stand it you won't make much of a mess.

Well, maybe I'll just fab up a sheetmetal litter box to put my engine stand in.Might as well test out my welder that I got 5 months ago
