Over the last couple of months I have been upgrading parts and what not. I am trying to get everything done by the end of april when the local track opens up. Below is my current combo;302 (bored 30 over) Edelbrock RPM heads (1.9 intake/1.6 exhaust) Edelbrock RPM intake Holley 650 DP 270H comp cam magnum 1.6 crane roller tip rockers MSD billet distibutor MSD 6AL box MSD coil and wires 9 to 1 comp Hedman shorty headers 2.5 inch exhaust with H pipe Flowmaster mufflers (no tailpipes) Richmond 4.11 gears Centerforce dual friction clutch (11 inch) 4 spd toploader tranny Approx 2800 LBS 65 Falcon. What is everyone's thoughts on my current combo? How much flywheel HP can I expect from this combo? I was thinking that it should be similar to the Edelbrock RPM package (367 HP), If not maybe a tad more. What times could I expect in the 1/4 mile? I have a set of BFG drag. Is there anything in my combo that is not matched up? I have spent alot of money on heads/carb/drag radials and a bunch of other parts over the past winter. I wan't to have a good year at the track this year. Any help/ideas or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Anyone??? Is this combo capable of running high 12's? The track dosen't open for another month. I wan't to be able to run in the high 12 range. Do I have enough in my current combo to acheive this goal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had a similar combo in my 65 fb, wieghing about 3100 lbs with me in it. Same cam, heads, intake, compression, in a 289. Carb was 650 vacuum secondary, full length headers, C4 with 2400 stall, 3:55 gears, crappy tires, crappy 2.60 60foot times, no traction, ran 13.90s best time. Lots of wheelspin. On street radials, and no traction aids. You better do something with a traction aid, at least slapper bars, if not something better.

I was going to respond today with a high 12 answer from work, but got too busy. Maybe even quicker, but the big variables are the 4 speed and how well you can powershift it, and the traction. You should be able to run over 100 mph in the 1/4, maybe 105. That could get you to mid 12's with a good launch and slick shifting. Good luck with it. SteveW

Thanks for the replies guys.Steve 66 - yes powershifting is going to be very inportant. I currently have the stock shifter in there. It is a little sloppy, But I have shifted well with it in the past. I have a hurst shifter that I bought off of a friend a couple of weeks ago. He only used it for a year and eventually switched to an automatic tranny. I have been told that if I install the hurst that it would be a night and day difference. That is next on my agenda. Thanks once again.

A 2-step rev limiter and a real set of slicks would be nice.------------------ Mike Burch 66 mustang real street 302 4-speed 289 heads 10.63 @ 129.3 http://www.geocities.com/carbedstangs/cmml_mburch.html http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/healey/367 http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?220

We worked on my business partners car for 2 years with a similar combo. We finally got it into the 11.70's, but that was two years of tweaking the combo. The car was an `85 Mustang @2750#'s. It had world products heads (not as good as yours), Performer RPM intake, 650dp Holley, 289 (here's the big diff.) 13:1 compression, and a .600 ish Comp cam. We launched the slush box at 4200 rpm with slicks and 4.56 gears. At Edgewater Sports Park in Cincinati in Oct. in the best traction we had ever been in, it went 11.77 at about 111 mph and a nice six inch or so wheels up launch.I think you have a very good start with lots of potential but, don't expect it to happen all at once. ------------------ Mark Nishwitz Sin City Performance Houston, Ohio `66 Mustang 351C OSCA Mild Street

I would guess you should be close to the 12's if not in them with your setup. The only thing I would like to see is a bit more compression. Maybe more like 10:1? Or even 10.5 with the aluminum heads. I'd say you should be close to your goal regardless.B-loose

Local track... Western Speedway? You'll run 5's! (it's 384ft long!) I think the shorty headers are maybe mismatched, but won't be a huge problem. Traction or wheelhop may be, i think the Falcon has a crappy rubber isolator around the spring where the rear end mounts. Need to get rid of those and change the U bolts and mounting plates (shock brackets) to the Mustang ones and the big locating hole in the spring perch can be sleeved with a thick washer which is best welded in but will even work if it's sitting in snug.

TomP - Good to see another local on this board. Yes the local track is Western Speedway. I will be going up to Port Alberni in August for the thunder in the valley drag races. It's a 1/4 mile track, I went out last year and didn't do to well because of clutch and suspension problems... Not to mention traction problems.I was using traction bars at one time and took them off and built an adjustable pinion snubber that seems to work really well for wheelhop. I will definately look into the mustang setup for the rear. Thanks once again.
