FORD CANCELS HEMI PROJECTThe Agent sees that Ford has canceled the development of a new hemi-headed engine called the "Hurricane." The 6.2-liter engine was reportedly being developed to counter Chrysler's Hemi and would have been used in the 2007 Ford Expedition, Navigator and maybe in John Force's nitro-burning Mustangs. When NHRA decided to go with a spec Chrysler Hemi in Top Fuel the Ford Hemi engine Force was developing was effectively outlawed. The Agent hears Ford was none too pleased by NHRA's move. Thing is the modular motor Ford has I think is better than the new hemi, other than in displacement. The 5.4 is kind of over stroked (fine for a truck), but if they played with the bore / stroke combo and put some decent sized valves in the 2 valve motors , Ford would be fine. And if we get into the DOHC 4 valve motors, as my Italian friends say "forgetaboutit"

They can't bore it enough. The tiny bores won't fit big valves on a 2 valve. To make that 6.2L they'd need like a 4 1/2" stroke with the block bored to max for the bore spacing. The Brand X's had allowed for a 4" or larger bore. Not much foresight with the Modulars, at the time they were developed they assumed there wouldn't ever be a need for engines over 5L's again. Making a whole new engine like the Hurricane would have been the best idea. I suppse a V12 with the 4.6's bore and stroke would be OK, exotic at least! I've never been able to figure out the Modular engines..... HUGE on the outside, small on the inside.------------------ "I only drink to steady my nerves. TomP: You're right, but Ford should just hang the 4v heads on and quit making these variable valve timing 3v things. As I view this post, it seems as history is repeating itself for Ford. They again have motors hamstrung with heads that don't flow. Now we may get into making another engine?? Its going to be like having Windsors, Cleveland, FE's and 385's all over again. 5.4 , steel crank, 4v heads , should be 320hp and lots of low rpm torque as well!

I'd say it's more as if they are just making Flatheads or Y Blocks now when they really need to good old FE again.
