Got out Sunday for the first T&T at the local track and my 60' times are terrible. I ran fairly consistant with 8.022 8.05 and 8.07 with MPH always between 88.7 and 89.5 problem is, my best 60' time was 1.877 with most in the 1.93 range. I am guessing with the right setup it should be in at least the 1.7 range? I am running 29x11x15 Hoosiers (I know shorter would help some), 4:62 gears in an 8", stock leafs, summit drag shocks set on stiff, moroso trick front coils(one coil removed), summit drag shocks up front set on 90/10. Converter is anothe problem I am pretty sure, it's a TCI 10" Super Street Fighter. It doesn't spin when launching off the footbreak at about 2200.This is in a 67 Cougar approx 3000# 289 w/ c4 Any suggestions are welcome. [This message has been edited by ntman (edited 03-15-2005).]

More torque Faster reaction time and a tail wind would help. Have fun.

Thanks grego37 Problem is it's a 289 so torque is limited, and reaction times were .501 .505 and .530 (sun was in my eys ) This car is driving me nuts, it has ran a best MPH of 91.?? so I am guessing the motor has at least 7.8 potential but something it a miss.

nt,Time for a good converter. If it really isn't spinning on the launch. Have someone video the launch for you and paint a white mark on the slicks. What are you using for traction bars? SteveW

Those convertors are junk for racing and barely adequete for street use.

I am using home made bars made from 2x2 square stock. They are welded to the leaf springs u-bolt mounts and have 1/2" grade 8 bolts for snubbers. Pass side is about 1/2" from the spring eye, driver side is about 3/4". I am also using a pinion snubber that sits about 3/4" from the pinion. The car doesn't feel like the suspension is unloading or anything. It doesn't squat or lift just kind of leaps forward, just not fast enough. About the time the back of the car gets to the tree, it takes off good and pulls hard. No bog or stumble, just doesn't rev much until the 30' mark.I agree that the converter is junk, I found a local company that will custom build me an 8" converter to my specs for about $400. Until then, maybe I will just take Alex's suggestion and neutral drop it at about 5k

I ran a TCI super street fighter with my old windsor combo. It sucked until I sent it back and for around $100.00 (1992 dollars) they loosened it up to around 4000 and I went from 1.8's to 1.6's! It eventually ran in the mid 1.5's. I still have that converter, with that motor it ran just as well as the ATI 8" I was running at the time. The convertor i use came stock on the Mustang the T5 was out of... it stalls up to 7000 rpm sometimes and other times stalls at idle speed. Tom, of the anti-slushbox brigade
