Howde folks,
A buddy of mine wants to slide a late model 5.0 and AOD in a '93 240SX. I am somewhat capable of making things fit BUT what all would be essential from the 5.0 donor model? he's looking for a roller model stock basiclly. he wants to make it easy by going carb. What intake>? I was thinking a air gap performer? ok you small block guru's time to step up!

I'm kinda helping him on this project so Ya'll need to make me look good here. LOL
thanks

hi, i have a 302 in a triumph tr7. make engine mounts easy. weld a heavy braket on each frame rail and make a 3/8" aluminom plate to go from each head to your braket. a couple good bolts on each end and your good. do all your measurements and welding and fitting with the engine hanging in the car. small car+sb fords are alot of fun

Jerry, what I was meaning to say was, why not us a Pinto or another small Ford for the project. V-8 280z were real hot when I was a teenager. I always liked the V-8 pinto's better.

Well I suppose it's because he already owns the 240 and likes it? I don't know. something about having a lil foreign car that's supposed to have a small 4 banger in it but instead have a v8. I think he is going for the sneak up on them effect there scoop. You know where they THINK it's something but it isn't? I'd have to ask him to be sure though.

I think it's a great idea, what better way to improve and import than to stick a SBF in it?

Any serious ideas on the Build up of the motor? Cam suggestions? Induction is still wide open too.
We're tossing around the idea of a Edel. RPM air gap and a 650 holley. This thing needs to be super streetable, reliable etc.

Thanks for the idea there jay, I was thinking about a motor plate myself.

Jerry, we both know I'm no expert on engine tuning.
But I'd go with a RPM intake,650 carb, and some thing close to the 270 cam. A real nice cam on the street and it still pulls alot better then stock.
There is a guy in town that has an Amigo with a 302/C-4 in it. It's a real sleeper expect for the 12" wide rear tires.

Actually one of the great things about a 302 is it's compact nature. I think it makes a great motor for lots of swaps.

I think you will have to wait on the intake until the motor is in the engine bay. You may have problems keeping it all under hood. The Air gap is a great intake but it may not fit. I would stay conservative with the cam if you truely want to stay stealthy. Nice quiet mufflers too. Putting together a nice streetable SBF will be no problem at all. I would work at fitting it in there first and once you get that worked out the rest of the details can be worked on.

thanks for the tips guys

So a stock cam? since Bullet is right here in Memphis it looks like we could get a small nitrous Hydro bump stick for next to nothing. got to keep it somewhat on a budget.

waiting for the small block guru himself to chime in..... Alex? where are you snoozing at?

I'd stick a cam in it. I have a B303 in my 5.0L Ranger, it is stock except for the cam and a Perf. RPM (non-Air Gap) and the 83-85 factory Holley 600 which i swear by. It gets great mileage and makes OK power (12.75@106)

With that light of a car, you won't need much power. The rear end isn't going to spend much time attached to the asphalt. I'd keep it simple and fuel efficient. It'll still blow the tires off most other cars out there.

I wouldn't think it's that light. It may be 2700 lbs or more and not much different than an early Mustang or Falcon. Don't go sticking in a 255 with single exhaust thinking you'll take on anything.

You'll still need 300hp to make it disrespectable. If you supply enough power to bust the original rear end a suitable replacement can be made from a 9" housing with 4 lug Maverick 8" axles(early 70's with 250), that way stock wheels would fit.

actually, my convertible 240SX weighs around 3600 lbs due to extra supports and whatnot. I've changed my mind and am going to do a EFI instead of carb.
