I've reached my last straw with this carb. Driving home last night at WOT the car ran better then ever. But it was also loading up the same as ever. This morning I went and looked in the carb the plates were wet both front and rear. I talked to the local hotrod holley carb guy. He wants to check the size of the air bleeds, and meter plates etc, and make sure every thing is flat. To test and go over the carb he wants $100-$200 depending on how much work it needs. And he's backed up for at least 4-6 weeks. So should I have it fixed or just go buy a new one. Summit has a 700dp for $355.95 or a 750dp $395.99. Unless someone has a REAL good 700-750DP then want to sell cheap. I don't ask for much do I. I don't want the over rich idle to wreck the new rings. ------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe 351w C4 Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

I talked Alex today, he slapped some sense back into me. I'll try a few more tests first. Now if I did buy a new carb which should I get ? The choices are, 1.700dp 2.750dp 3.750vs 4.670 Street Avenger 5.770 Street Avenger 6.650dp Or a Proform main body $99.88 will this work on a 700dp because it says it's for a 650 or 750 carb. Motor is a 40 over 351w 10-1 pistons RPM 2.02 heads and RPM intake, girly man 270h cam. ------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs

Any reason you're not considering a vacuum secondary?

the 670 street avenger will be too small for the strip, or at least that's what i was told when i asked about a combo similar to yours (but with lower compresion).Mach won also offered the carb swap to see if it was a carb problem, that might be a good idea before you drop $200 into fixing yours, or $400 into buying a new one, all to find it's a differnt problem. Scoop, me again.... I have a brand new Street Avenger 670 in the box, never used. It's Ebay bound. I bought it for my Cleveland but decided to go mechanical secondaries. If you decide on that carb, let me know, I'll make you a deal you can't refuse. P.S. I do have a good 750dp I'll sell cheap! [This message has been edited by Mach won (edited 03-07-2005).]

Hi Scoop. Don't throw your hands up man and spend money for something that may not cure your problem. A handfull of diagnostic tools and a couple manuals may do more good in the long run. At the risk of being redundant, may I suggest a vacuum gauge, tach/timing light, spark tester, compression tester and degree wheel. These tools will serve you well for many, many years. As previously noted, give us your engine specs, run some basic tests and get back ro us and we can darn sure point you in the right direction. What you learn as a result will be invaluable in the future. I thank God everyday for the lessons my Dad taught me. I find applications for his teachings routinely. I pity the poor slobs who've never had the chance to acquire skills to maintain their own homes and vehicles. I can't imagine how the average working man can afford to pay a plumber or appliance repairman or mechanic to maintain their investments. I suppose that's why I've been a mentor to several youngsters involved in auto tech classes at the local vocational school. Well, I'm rambling again. All I'm saying is, if you have the time and inclination, and can give us more detailed information, myself and these fine fellows on here can get you through this, and you'll be the better for it! Good luck, Dusty.

I changed my plugs today. They were all way to rich with lots of black dry carbon on them. The car seemed to idle alittle better. I was able to bring the idle speed down to 1000 in park and 800 in drive. I took it for a short drive it seems ok so far.------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe 351w C4 Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

I checked 4 of the new plugs tonight. They look a lot better then the old ones. That was after starting the car cold, and letting idle to see if it would load up,and a short drive around the block. I also changed the cap and rotor too. The new Holley 700dp sure seems like it's making a difference. ------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs

Why not send your carb to one of the carb tuners like Bigg's or Pro Systems or Quick Fuel?? I'm sure they would get it set up correctly for your application, but when you change applications you will need to change carbs......that's why I like the removeable venturi Race Demons.......
