I was re reading the HR text where they said Mel would "never make a dime bracket racing" We all know they are the prophets of today & all they say is absolute truth. Yeah, right! Anyways, the local races around here pay $1,000 to $1200 weekly for a $35.00 entry, $25 buyback, (including driver's gate pass) in Pro class, $25 entry in footbrake, &600 to win, $10 buyback, two races a season are $5,000 to win with $75.00 entry, then there are the three tens, 10 G a day for three days, and the million, although they are 100 & more miles away. What are the weekly programs in M&M member's areas?

Even if I win every points race at Byron this year in Pro--I would not come close to making back the amount of money I have spent building my bracket car. Most bracket racers don't race to make money--we race because we love racing! ------------------ Jeff C. 97 Cougar 4.6L 67 Fairlane 390 99 Ford E250 5.4L M&M # 2872

My question is/was what does your home track or area tracks pay on a local weekly basis?

Points races for Pro are 1000 to win--55 dollars entry fee--no buybacks. A few times a year they have 5000 to win bracket races. I didn't mean to avoid your question I just meant that there is no profit in bracket racing. ------------------ Jeff C. 97 Cougar 4.6L 67 Fairlane 390 99 Ford E250 5.4L M&M # 2872

Once the car is bought, and barring any serious break-age, bracket racing can be profitable. There are several guys in this area that race for a living, and make a good living doing it.
Personally, although I am not that good, I have had more than one year where I made more money than I spent. Talk about a b*tch when tax time rolls around.

Yeah,That was a problem Melissa had with the article. Until I explained that she'd have to win about 20,000 to break even. I think they just wanted to point out that she's not doing it Professionaly. Fact is not many of the Pros make a dime racing, most lose a LOT. Our local races in Div. 7 don't pay very well. $500 to win "no box, or Pro" and $300 to win "Street or SPM" With a $50 entry for Pro and $40 entry for SPM. On our weekly races, we usually race in CompRod which is a run what you brung category. Boxes allowed, rails, 8.00 secs and up. It's just for a trophy though. We have a Jackpot class with the same rules only $10 extra for the pot. It isn't about the money. SteveW

I agree with all that its not all about money, there is the comraderie, on & on. Money does help with the habit tho. I have heard that out west the money isnt as much as it is here, that is what I wanted, different areas of the country to tell about their track.
