I have Elde. RPM Air Gap manifold that has some yellow stains on it. Has any one tried soda blasting on aluminum intakes? if so how is the finish after the blasting. I really don't want to bead blast it because it changes the finished look. I have soaked the intake in carb cleaner and brake cleaner with no results. any suggestions? Don't know about the blasting, but the etching cleaners for mag wheels work pretty good and don't change the finish.Roger

A guy at work swears by the acid we use to clean the concrete floor, gets rid of any stain on aluminum, eats away they layer it stained

mine looks brand new now. 1. I washed down with simple green cleaner. 2. wiped over really good with a paint prep to remove all grease. 3. Sprayed DUPLI-COLOR HIGH HEAT (Aluminum ceramic)1200 degree paint on in several thin coat on per instruction. 4. let dry and put manifold in over to bake (per instruction) I was really impressed with the looks. I also painted and bake my termostate housing. Motor is not together yet so durability is unknown. (WARNING!!! PLEASE DO NOT LET MANIFOLD COOK UNATTEND (oil resudue inside manifold smoked)also bake when wife is away. My entire house smelt like a factory for a few days WARNING!!!)

Baking soda works great on alluminum We use it all the time on our pistons to get the moly-coat off for inspections. Non-abrassive,

I wouldn't use them on MY pistons, But we take the molycoat off of them at work to check the dementions of the pistons we then discard them. What I'm trying to say is thatsoda-blasting works on alluminumm very well. Very little pitting compared to sand-blast. For what you are trying to accomplish It will work very well.

I soaked it in carb cleaner for a week and it did'nt help. Dubz did you find out what acid you were talking about?------------------ 1968 coupe 351W, Bored.030,Stock Crank, Stock Rods,Decked,KB Hyper. flat top pistons. Ok, right off the Eagle 1 spray bottle, etching cleaner for rough cast and machined aluminum, contains hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid.Roger

Tryed that stuff it really must be diluted to the max because it only helped a little. I tryed some muratic acid diluted 50/50 with water and that removed the yellow stains completly. I followed up with the Eagle cast wheel cleaner and that helped some more. It turned the intake a little darker so I'm going to soake it in the carb cleaner some more.------------------ 1968 coupe 351W, Bored.030,Stock Crank, Stock Rods,Decked,KB Hyper. flat top pistons.
