Decided to become legit Took the dragster up to Huntsville, Al. It's a very nice NHRA 1/8 mile track. It was the first passes on the engine since a recent rebuild. It ran just like it left off last season. They need 2 60' shutoff passes, 2 half track passes and two full passes. Passes: 1. 1.100 60', shut off 2. 1.100 60', shut off 3. 1.102 60', 3.176 330', shut off, coasted 1/8 5.22 @ 102.5 4. 1.106 60', 3.178 330', shut off, coated 1/8 5.27 @ 101.9 5. 1.136 60' (tower guy screwed up and gave me a Pro .400 tree, when it came down unexpected, I flinched and let off the gas pedal, didn't leave at 100% throttle) 3.178 330' 1/8 4.944 @ 140.64 6. 1.106 60', 3.176 330', 1/8 4.942@ 140.61 Got my paperwork signed by the track owner and a couple of local racers. Just have to send it in with the Dr's physical form and the all important $$$ and I'll be done. ------------------ 557 BBF Powered, alcohol injected rear engine dragster. 4.90 @ 143 1/8 mile. 1.09 60'. You have run the car a year or two haven't you? And you didn't need license to race yet? Good job! There is a 330ft track on northern Vancouver Island... near some of our members, visit them and dial 3.17 to pay for the long tow!

Thanks guys,It's been a hassle to go through the process, but I'm glad it's over. Now I just have to keep it current every two yrs with a physical and the the $$ to the NHRA. Tom, I've been in the car 2 yrs. In the Southeast the majority of the tracks are "outlaw" unsanctioned tracks. No license, no tech to speak of. You pay your money and take your chances. LOL. Even the bigger tracks have very little in the way of tech. My home track is IHRA and sends a team to the bracket finals, but there is no "real" tech and no license checks. I got the license mainly so I can go to the NMRA and FFW races and race the brackets. Tech at these races for the bracket cars is done by each local track, so it can be hit or miss. I just didn't want to take the chance of a 5-6 hr tow and then not be allowed to race. So, I'll be ready for the NMRA race in April at Reynolds, GA. Alex, just wondered if you might have heard of the guys who signed off on my license. Jeff Wilkerson, a comp racer with a B/A '00 Trans Am. Also Lee Kell, a friend of mine who runs TAD. I may go if I happen to be off work. I took last Sat off to go to Huntsville, so I need to work this weekend if they need me. Don't really know yet. Are you still planning on going to Reynolds for the NMRA race? I'll be there. Roy & Jeff Pounds are going with their Maverick along with a few other guys I know. BTW, FYI, the bracket portion of the NMRA race will be 1/8 mile in Pro and Sportsman and 1/4 mile in Street. Did you do all your runs on the same day? When I did mine in 1980 you had to do your part throttle runs one day and the full runs the next.

Yes, I made all 6 runs in one day. First run at 12:40, last one at about 4:45. The car didn't seem to mind. The only incident with the car came on the last pass. Header bolts loosened up on #5 and I blew the silicone out on the pass. (I don't use gaskets.) Had a heck of an exhaust leak about 18" behind my head. Thought I had a rod knocking or something.
