My buddies got an 89 5.0 with GT 40 heads but we found a hole in the intake runner where someone before had seemingly ported a little too far. the epoxy busted loose that they put in and now we're stuck. Is it a smart practice to have it welded or should he just go back to a stock gt head?

street driven or a toy?Epoxy doesn't seem to hold on daily drivers... unless Alex has a better way of doing it... I'd love to hear one as my intake needs a bit of work as well... [This message has been edited by 74merc (edited 03-01-2005).]

There is a super industrial strength green epoxy used by Pro head shops. It is very expensive. Over $150 a pint. Most shops that use it will paste a small amount where needed for a reasonable fee. You then can do your own finish grinding and reinstall the head.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! Sounds like a worthwhile investment for our weekend playing, but I'm not wasting it on my Edel intake... lolDo they have different versions for aluminum and cast iron?

Well, I took the head to a shop to be welded today. Should have it back tonight, but can I grind the weld down a bit to smooth it out or should I just leave it alone???

You can grind it if the welding job is good.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! The welder called me today and told me the metal wouldn't go into the hole but its sealed around it. It's only sticking out about a 1/16 of an inch, I'm just going to run it the way it is and be thankful it isn't a wasted head....
