so i'm rebuilding a 289 for a drag race pinto... most of you know the story. Anyways, i started work on the heads and the valve seats are shot. the seats are rolled in causing the valves to sit too low.(im trying to get pics) the stock heads that have obviously seen a ton of abuse, it had crane gold rockers and the springs aren;t stick either. i'm looking at almost $400 to try and fix them, finding a pair of used heads, or then they'res new heads but the budgets strapped... any advice alternative solutions are appreciated.

Install a cheap set of stainless 351W sized valves. This will put the valveseat out beyond the recessed area, and bring the height right up to where it needs to be without new hardened seat inserts. Yep, it they are the non- rail rocker type heads you don't want the longer tipped valves, use the Chevy replacements or customs sizes like 1.90, easy fix, valves are available cheaply nowadays.
