Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has done any A-B-A or dyno testing with different spark plug brands? I've been using Autolite AR Racing plugs. These have a back-cut ground strap that makes it almost like a side gap plug. Seems like a good idea to me. But....I have noticed that MANY racers use NGK. Has anyone done any direct testing? Alex, I know you have had to done some testing. This is for my 557 BBF, aluminum heads, Flying Toilet alky injection. Currently using Autolite AR 3932. Thanks David Cole

David, I have used the AR plugs also. Friend of mine that races ProMod says to run the "Accel" plugs. Well I alwsys thought they were a cheap plug but I guess I'll give them a try. BTW I had the wrong converter in my car, I had PTC build be a new 8". Got it in just have to go to the track and test to see what happens. Russ Hood

We tested Champion, Motorcraft racing, Autolite AR, and Splitfire. Similar heat ranges and several gaps. MSD 7 with trick coil Results as follows on MM's 289AR best with factory gap Motorcraft BF 12 second with .035 gap Splitfire 3rd Champion lost 10 HP regardless of gap. Missfire over 8300RPM. 2 sets tried. Anything over .040 gap cost or lost power on all brands. No 18mm NGK available Similar results on EFI 302 with same ignition Champion did not fall off as bad, but motor turned 2k less RPM. After test, no need to bother with NGK as point was proven.

Thanks Russ, I have used the Accel shorty plugs before to gain header clearance with a set of cheap headers/Dart heads on my old Mustang. Never had a complaint with them. I have been told by a couple of guys that Accel plugs are made by NGK. So, go figure. You'll like the new converter. PTC will do a good job. I had my dragster recerted in Dec. I just freshened my engine, ordered new seat belts today. Tires prob next week. I'm trying to get it ready to make some NHRA license passes towards the end of this month at Hunstville. David Cole

Thanks Alex,I've had good luck with Autolites, may just stay there and play with the heat ranges a bit. David Cole [This message has been edited by Dave_C (edited 02-10-2005).]

Hey Alex, the Jacobs Pro-Street igntion system with ultra coil says that the gap should be 0.050" plus. I think I have mine at like 0.052". Do you think that is too much gap then by what you said? Would I be better to pull my gap a little tighter? Oh yeah, I'm running AR-25's. Thanks------------------ 1982 Ford F100 2wd Shortbox. Thanks Alex, I take it you mean 0.032-.035? So I actually lose power with the gap open too wide? Is it enough to notice, seat of the pants wise or like in idle quality? ------------------ 1982 Ford F100 2wd Shortbox. Powered by a 357 Cleveland w/ closed chamber 4v's and a Funnelweb. Wow, I'm not going against what you are saying, I will pull my plugs out and tighten the gap. That just is amazing that Jacobs wants the gap to be so much higher than what is 'optimal'. Why does the tighter gap work better? ------------------ 1982 Ford F100 2wd Shortbox. Powered by a 357 Cleveland w/ closed chamber 4v's and a Funnelweb. Maybe that's why they were bought out by Mr Gasket who is the parent company of two real ignition product companies. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! Are you saying that the Jacobs isn't a good ignition system? ------------------ 1982 Ford F100 2wd Shortbox. Powered by a 357 Cleveland w/ closed chamber 4v's and a Funnelweb.
