What's the deal with the rear crossover on some SBF intakes? I would have thought that not having it was better to keep the water flowing from rear to front in the heads. But I noticed that a stock '83 4V has the rear passage. So now I'm not sure. Are you better off with or without this feature?B-loose

Later carb engines had a tough time meeting emission standards. They were trying to keep the intake heat consistant.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! So it was just an emmisions thing??? I've noticed on some performance intakes you can get it either way. Are you better off without it?P.S. are the stock 4V aluminum intakes from the late models (look the same as the early cast iron intakes) OK or are they complete crap. How do they compare to the Performer? B-loose

I wouldn't give ya $2 for a late FoMoCo 4v aluminum intake.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! I guess that answers that question! Are the early iron 4V's scrap also? The look pretty simular. What do you think of the Performer manifold for a 302 w/around 214* or duration? Or would I be better off putting an RPM on there? B-loose

I`ll give ya $3.00! . On my 85 Mustang Stocker, I have to retain the crappy flat OE intake, luckily, I can find the intakes, 4180 "smog" carbs, a E5 heads really cheap, because nobody else wants them! Bloose, for a mild engine like that, the Performer 289 should work quite well. I ran one on my 302 Fairmont, & was quite happy with it, shifting at 5500 rpm.
