Is this place in line with what the going rates are? I was just trying to figure out what the costs would be for some work Im thinking of. Im not using these guys because they are far away but will use someone local to me. http://www.speedomotive.com/MACHINE%20SHOP%20LABOR%20AND%20SERVICE.htm ------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC Bla-Bla-Bla 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55

The machine shop I use charged me less than $200 to bore and hone my v8 block using my new pistons to finish hone the cylinders. They also hot tanked the block and installed cam bearings and honed the lifter bores. Plus, they installed my pistons on my rods and made sure the big ends were true. I paid them $150 to rework a set of heads (3 angle) which included new valve guides. I've been told that that was cheap. Don't know but that's the going rate for just about all the shops around here.

Those prices seem ridiculous to me. I paid $88, 11 a hole to bore and hone my block and 125 for a line bore, not just a hone, 75 to recondition the rods, including shotpeening and installing the arp bolts, and resizeing the big ends. 150 to completely balance it, 20 to put in cam bearings, 25 to cook the block. ------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 306 with 650 dp holley, Weiand Stealth intake, headers, mme custom roller cam, harland sharp roller rockers, kb pistons, 10.3:1 compression ratio, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 3.50 9" locker rear. 1986 f-150, 5.0, factory towing package with original c-6 trans

Isn't this kind of question always sort of, well, almost meaningless if you survey the US as a whole? Isn't anything in Southern California that involves any kind of labor 10 times the price of Nebraska?

I just wanted to see if the prices were high or not so I could estimate some costs. Besides I dont live in Nebraska! ------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC Bla-Bla-Bla 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55

There's Weston Machine in South Plainfield. I know he'll fax you a price sheet. There's also Hansen Racing in Middlesex. He could prolly do the same. They're both good guys. I can personally vouch for Larry Hansen. Weston is very respectable as well although I don't him personally. They both build fast stuff that I've seen win and be consistent at E-Town.------------------ My interests? Finishing first w/o breaking out

If there is a college around you with an automotive dept. try checking with instructors if anyone needs a project. When I was attending a university there was always someone looking for projects for class. Usually only required parts cost and time (semester projects). More details if anyone cares to pursue this option. In my program, the instructors drug out the work that every move that was made was looked at. Example--heads (that I did) 68 c8oe, hardened seats installed, 3-angle valve job, springs tested (pressure and trueness), valves ground and prussian blue seated, vacuum tested, and probably other things that I forgot. Point is that the students are watched very closely. Might look at it if you have time on your side. Dave

No offence but I would rather not take a chance. Ive experienced that first hand and there are some good guys in there but there are also guys that you wonder if they are in the right class. I went to a county college near me that had a GM sponsored program that was cool because you got hands on training on the job and in the classes and at the end you received an associates degree. This place had everything to rebuild an engine but they wouldnt let you touch it. I even took classes on engine rebuilding and they still didnt let you do anything but change a gasket in the lab. When I said that they had every thing they had everything! That was 20 years ago so who knows what they have there now, maybe a cnc machine or something like that but what good is it if they dont let you use it. Boy did I go off on a tangent there! If I had stock heads or something that I didnt have too much invested in I might go there but I would also have to be strapped for cash. ------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC Bla-Bla-Bla 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55

I'll have to check into them. There is a guy in South River that someone I know uses but I can't think of the shops name. Anyway this guy I know races down at E-town with his brother, father and brother in-law. They all drive Fords and all us this one guy. I can think of a few others but they are mainly Chevy guys.
