Hi all,

I have a 1968 Torino GT Fastback that was origionally a 302W car with the 8" Rear End.

I am building a 351CJ at present and I have already had a B&M Modified C6 Transmission built to replace the FMX that was bolted up to the 351C 2V that was in the car when I bought it.

I have recently located a 1967 Galaxy that was a 428FE car...that still has it's 9" rearend and axle housing assembly in place.

I need to ask the experts here if this would be a direct swap option into my 1968 Torino without any alterations? If so? what would be a fare price to offer for this rear end assembly?

Thanks in advance.

Allen

Absolutely not, way too wide and coil sprung.

The only ones that bolt in are 66-69 Fairlane/Torino/Comet/Cyclone but not Ranchero and wagons.(perches are closer together) The 9" is used only in 351(69), 390 and 428 cars.

The Mustang and Cougar and the Ranchero/Fairlane wagon housing is the same width but the leaf spring perches are in a different spot. The Mustand and Cougar also have the tapped hole for the breather/brake hose on the left instead of right side.

Thanks Tom,

I got the bad news on another website yesterday regarding the galaxy as a donor. Some even suspect the Galaxy having a 9 3/8 rear end too.

I was aware of the 351W in the 69 coming with a 9 inch..but I have also been told by many that Ford often grabbed what was available and slapped them in regardless of the build tag data.

Well at least I know where to do my looking...thanks for your reply.

They didn't grab whatever rear end without a willy nilly as to application. There may be some Nodular cases in applications that don't specify one but you won't find an 8" in a 390 Fairlane or a 9" in a 289 2V one.

The '69 351 may be the easiest of those to find in wrecking yards but sometimes you can come across a 390 or a 9" swapped into a 289 car.

I was not saying willy nilly regarding a mis-match of an 8" going together with a BB car..but more of a chance of a 9" going into a 302W equipped Torino in a pinch...I've heard those stories for the sake of keeping the line moving.
