Just a quickie. I'm looking at two 351C oil pans, one from a 72 Stang and one from a 73. The first has a horizontal baffle, the second has nothing. Both look original and unmolested.
I know which one I'm going to use, but I'm curious which is original.
Thanks,
Simon

I believe the baffled pan came on the 4V motors and the plain pan goes on 2v. I have had 3 4v engines and they all had the baffle. I could be wrong though because I never had a 2v to compare.

I think after '70 it became a crap shoot as to whether or not the 4v motors came with the baffle, just like 4 bolt main blocks. I think they used whatever they had avialable. I have had a couple of later 4v motors (2 '72's and one '73) that didn't have the baffled pan, and one that did. But I have never taken an original 2v motor apart that had the baffled pan.

Thanks guys! Both pans came off 2V engines, so I guess it's a crap shoot with them too.

All of the 6 or so post 70 2V motors I've owned have had the baffled pan. The two 4V motors, one a 70, had no baffle, my 71 had an aftermarket pan.

Crap shoot for sure. Use the baffled pan anyway....

The Boss & HO had a baffled pan with a crank scraper in the shallow section....
