I need some advice from ford racers. I'm building 408w stroker and am wondering which head to use. I see the AFR's are a bit more expensive, but what the better bang for the buck. This is a strip/street car. I'll give ya a little info on the internal parts. forged crank and rods, 10.4:1 compression, hydrallic roller cam (236/240 555/570), victor jr manifold, c-4, 4.11 gears, 3,000 stall converter Also, to keep in mind I live in Denver where the air is thin. Thanks for the help Jason

The reason the AFR's are more expensive is because they are CNC ported from the factory, Victor Jr's are not CNC ported from edelbrock. Buy the Jr's and take them to a professional head person and have them ported for your particular application. Better than just buying the AFR's and hoping they are ported corretly for your application.

You also might want another option. I just finished reading the Jan. Issue of Car Craft and DART has developed some new heads for the windsor engine with impressive hp gains for under $1000.

The difference in the 2 heads is about 15HP on the top end for the AFR. I say the Vic Jr are the best buy. Personally I prefer the TFS R heads. What most reviews don't tell you is TFS heads start to make good power much lower rpms than standard heads and finish out way up top. Very under-rated because of their canted valves. ------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.50 @ 116 mph (7.33 @ 93 mph)daily driver! I totally agree with bluestreak, plus you can port TW-TW-R heads which good luck doing that to an afr, out of the box an afr 185 beats a TW by 8-10 hp, the TW-r beats the 205 by about the same but the TW-r has superior low to mid flow#'s which means better low and mid power, on AFR's own website they have the MM&ff 5.0 head shootout and the TW-r beats the 205 and the Kasse/jegs head as well. In my opinion you cant beat the hp per $ you get from trick flow heads.I'm getting my TW heads ported by T.E.A. to put on my 408 rather than buy AFR's my 67 vert http://htwheelz.smugmug.com

Both are good castings. The main difference is the AFR's are ported from the factory. The port work is excellent for the price difference between the two heads.------------------ Mike Burch 66 mustang real street 302 4-speed 289 heads 10.63 @ 129.3 http://www.geocities.com/carbedstangs/cmml_mburch.html http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/healey/367 http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?220
