I have two batteries for the trunk of the '66, same size, but one's a lead battery and the other is a Optima type spiral cell. Can I just wire them in parallel? If their charging rates are different should I have some kind of Isolator wired between them? Any diagrams? Thanks guys,

Ron,

Yeah it does, thanks. I went ahead and fab'd up a dual battery tray. Worst case I'll have to buy another battery to match. Thanks,

Steve you will need to buy another battery. The batteries need to be the same size. Due to the amp difference the larger battery will always be pulling the charge down on the smaller one.

I've done it, but it will cut the life of the smaller battery by about 1/2 in my experience.

Dave,

They are the same size, just different types. Still think I need to buy another? If so that's OK I'll buy another std. batt. and put two of the same type in each car.

p.s. The problem turned out to be the alternator. The 8ga charging wire was burnt off the alternator and the post was melted down.

Thanks Dave,

Anyone else have an opinion if I can run these two same size, different typ batteries in parallel with an isolator? If not, I'm going to do it.
