Hello, I have a 64 falcon with a toploader 4 speed. I just recently put in the tranny, and due to budget reasons, went with a new stock napa clutch set. My problem comes with the adjustment. I have the threaded rod adjustment, almost at it's end, and the pedal is still has some free travel. What could this be from? Any help or suggestion please. THANKS, Jason (p.s. the adjustment was the same with the old clutch?

Bent z bar is a good guess, they werent very strong even in the big block cars. My clutch pedal stayed on the floor the first time I power shifted it. Get a new one and reinforce it. There might be aftermarket ones available, I don't know. Also check the pedal pivot shaft under the dash, the bushings for it wear out too.

Mine bent way back when as well. It was the bottom portion.

I got it reinforced by welding some metal to it and it's been serving reliably ever since.

Good Luck!

When I bought my 67 Stang, the Z-bar was twisted, so bought a new one only to find out the adjusting push rod was too long (I guess to compensate for the twisted Z-bar) so tried to cut it and add new threads, only to break my el-cheapo die set from a cheap tool place. California Mustang had a universal cut to fit, so tried that one, and you guessed it, cut it too short on the first try. I'm sure glad I like wrenching!
