i had been all stoked about building a 393W, gathered a block, rods, even some .030 over flat top 302 slugs. but now im finding that even the set of D0OE Windsor heads i just found wont be enough to really feed this motor , so i did some calling and found a friend that has a complete 351 Cleveland, the bottom end needs work but the heads are in good shape. so i got to thinking about a 393 Clevor? what all is needed to make the Cleveland heads work on a Windsor block?? what intake will i need? id like to do this just because i would have something no one else around here has, and wouldnt have THAT MUCH money in it. plus it just sounds like it would SCREAM!
thanks in advance

Why not just build a 393C?
By the time you get custom pistons and rig an intake manifold, you could buy decent windsor heads.

Yeah, a stroked Cleveland doesn't cost any more than a Windsor stroker. You will have to get custom pistons for the Clevor anyway. The Clevor intake or intake adapter will add to the cost also. It makes that stroker cleveland sound like a better idea all the time.

Well, here's the deal. Unless the C heads have already been gone thru, you will have more money in them than you would a decent set of aftermarket W heads. The C heads will need all new valves (stock valves are pure junk and are only good if you want to destroy the motor), they more than likely will need guides; for performance they will need machined for screw in studs, plus unless they are 4v heads, they will need ported to flow even halfway decent (and will still not flow better than a good aftermarket W head.) Even then, the intake ports will still have too low of a roof, and way too low of a floor with a really short turn radius and wont make the power like say even an aluminum Windsor Sr head would. And then to top it off, if they are 2v heads, you will have great big ole combustion chambers that might not be very pump gas friendly if you try and turn the compression up. You add all that up, and even if the heads are given to you, you will have as much if not more in them than if you were to buy a set of aftermarket windsor heads.
