Is this the right forum? Well, I'm here now A small chunk has fallen off the leading edge of a C6 bellhousing, and the chunk (which I still have) is supposed to take a mounting bolt. Is there a recommended technique for welding this? It's aluminium alloy, right? I don't really want to chuck it 'cos it's got the original VIN for this 71 M code, and small-block C6s are very hard to find here. Thanks as always, Simon

Ouch! There's too much techno babble out there on the web But almost all of the stuff I can find is for aluminum, not aluminum alloy. Assuming the basic principles are the same, I need to find a skilled and experienced TIG welder. Any other tips before I set off? Does anyone know what alloy these castings are actually made of? Apparently this can help in choosing a rod and flux.

Simon, just find an experianced welder in your area. He will have the appropriate knowledge and equipment. In you area, I am sure that more aluminum parts are repaired than replaced due to cost.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS!
