I've seen some 351w that don't use a top alt bracket from the water pump. They just bolt it right into the head. Wouldn't that put to muc stress on the long top bolt. Also what about doing that with Alum heads. I got a new Alt for Xmas. It would fit better without using the top bracket but it just doesn't seem right ? What have you guys done ? How about just making a steel bracket that only goes to one water pump bolt ?------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe 351w C4 Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. There is a cast piece that bolts to the head, relocates the bolt to use the 289/302 alternator bracket.Or do like I did, take the stock 289 bracket and weld an extension on it, a little grinding and it looks like an extra long 289 bracket. ------------------ Stuart MCA #48902 M&M #1091 67 stang 5 speed, 351W, Edelbrock Performer RPM package my photo page

Thanks, I did the weld on trick all ready. The new alt is alittle fatter and if I could get to sit out from the head alittle more would be better. I'm just not sure about not using any top brack at all ? ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe 351w C4 Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

I've seen a couple without that bracket, looks scary to me. Break the bolt off, alternator falls into fan and takes out the radiator to boot. YIKES. Just call me doomsday, I always see the worst that can happen.

I bought a aluminum one that was for a 351w at the Fairplex show/swapmeet. When I got home I found it was for a big block. I ended up cutting the spacers and mounting it upside down. The adjusting rod was shown at the top and I have mine on the bottom. Took a while to figure a way to use it as I could not return it.------------------ -1974 351w Block Bored .30-1969 351w Heads Fully Ported-Screw in Studs-Roller Tip Rockers-Performer RPM Intake -Holley 650 Double Pumper-Malory Unilite Electronic Distributor-MSD 6al Box-Eletric Fuel Pump and Fan -C4 Auto with Custom Valvebody-2900 Stall Convertor-Carbon Fiber Bands -Custom made Ford 9" with 3" Axle Tubes-28 Spline Detroit Locker-3.73 Gears-Shelby Traction Bars Pics

This is the one that I like. http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=esearch.asp&N=110&Ntk=KeywordSearch&Ntt=moroso+ford+alternator+bracket&x=19&y=12It's a bit pricey, but very slick. If you have time to do some junk yard scrounging, there are some cast aluminum one piece brackets from late 70's 351 big body cars that work well. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! Thanks, no hurry my car isn't moving for some time yet. I'll get to the yard next week if it stops snowing. The from Summit is real cool, but yes a little to pricey for me.
