But they also have the currie third member with 3.89 gear and detroit locker end, for $1,200. Is it worth buying this set up or just buy the gears, locker and axles seperate.

Check with Currie direct, I bought a 9 inch housing from them, it was delivered in a week. The bare housing for my 67 was just over $300 shipped.

The drum brake setup is $299, axles are $300.

Summit might be making a little extra profit, order direct.

If you order direct, they can put the correct ends on the housing to use the Ford Explorer rear discs, about $375 from Currie or Ford Racing.

The $1200 is for the third member only. Alex suggested Randy's ring and pinion, it was $850 delivered, 3.89 and detroit locker.

Same thing I used. Short or long?? If you are replacing the 8 inch get a short yoke so you can use the existing driveshaft.

Measure your yoke for the length to get an identical one, also measure the width of the u-joint and cup diameter. Easier to get that straight now than after it gets installed.
Stock replacement u-joints should be fine unless you start dragracing with slicks.

With those measurements the guys at Randy's will be able to fix you up.

?? Did you talk to Opie?? He was the one who fixed me up.

His name was J, he explained very well to me. I like how they help you find whats best for your car. So all i have to do is tell them the size of the yoke and u-joint and they would be able to hook me up with the right yoke. thanks for the info.

IN addition to the appropriate socket, an impact is usually helpful.

^^ What ccode68 said ^^
I got a 'used' 31 sp traction lock center section for cheap with some trades. The owner had just bought it from Currie but decided that 4.11 was too much rear gear within 500 mi and swapped out the center section. I then had a local rearend shop fab me a strong housing out of currie fab center section, new 3" tubes, and the correct ends for the Explorer rear disc swap kits(currie or frpp) and appropriate length 31sp Mosers. They obviously will make it to fit whatever car you want, I just gave them my 8" housing and said make it exact. just installed it and everything lines up great, springs in same spot same angle everything. Still connecting all the brake lines/cables but I have less than 1500 in this whole setup and now have 4 whl disc brakes and upgraded axles/housing for less. call currie and ask em how much for a complete 9" disc to disc with 4.11 tractionloc and 31 spl shipped costs, youll ring up a $2500 order real quick. also still cheaper than buying the $1000 housing + $1200 center from summit cause that still has drums.
