There are Scat 3.85" 2.31" 9000 series cast stock main/rod journal cranks on Ebay for $350. Mine has seen well over 8000RPM without any issues and it is a great budget piece. I am using H-beam rods but stock truck rods with ARP bolts will be fine up to 7000RPMs (or more if they pass the x-ray).

Speedomotive.com has hi nodular cast iron 393 cranks for $264. I've got one of their hi-nod cranks in my 331 and have nothing but good praise to say about it.------------------ '65 "Black" ford FB, 331 with H beam 289 rods, KB322s, fully prepped 351w heads, 282S cam, C-4, 3.5 9" posi. Many Suspension and steering mods. 4.5 year restomod project completed in May '04. 308 RWHP and 307 RWTQ thru 2.5" dual exhaust and auto trans (later found that the throttle wasn't opening completely so it may be 310+ RWHP now) [This message has been edited by blackford (edited 01-18-2005).]

Careful with the cheap cranks. Although their quality may be acceptable, most times they can be a bear to balance. The additional cost of the Mallory heavy metal out weighs the initial savings.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! I saw that Scat 9000 crank and they say it?s good for up to 600 HP but it is cast. I think the Scat cranks are supposed to be good but I haven?t met anyone who used the cast one.------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55

www.cnc-motorsports.com They have the Eagle cast cranks for 249 and the Scats are 369, I believe. The Eagles havent been out very long, but so far the report is good on them as far as balancing. I dont think you will find a cheaper price.

I can't really speak for the sbf cranks, but I can say my Scat BBF crank has held up well. It's a 4.500" stroke cast steel 9000 series crank.I just had it magnafluxed after 2+ years and around 450 passes at close to 900 hp. No problems, no cracks.
